The Hatchery 09 serves as Riptor's stage in Killer Instinct (2013). It is the thirteenth stage introduced in the game, as well as the fourth stage introduced in Season 2.

Description[]

In the stage, there are two mountains that are visible: one with a tree planted on it, and another that hides the view of the moon appear in the nighttime background. There is some flaming debris scattered along the battlefield, and even a large jet can be seen. Near the side, there are industrial doors indicating the passage to another side of the Ultratech's base. During the ultra combo, missiles were fired and land around the area, and destroy it.

Music[]

Riptor's theme is composed by Mick Gordon, with a special appearance by former KI composer Robin Beanland (who composes the theme's idle melody).[1] It is a sweeping orchestral piece that has the feel of "Jurassic Park/World". It has a primal motif (befitting the dino's savage nature) and added with electronic effects, the latter of which reflects upon the dino's cybernetic enhancements in the rebooted universe.

When the fighters hold still for a certain period of time, the music will change to a remixed version of Riptor's classic theme, "Rumble".

On the official Season 2 soundtrack, it is the shortest track, ranging at only 3 minutes, 42 seconds. This is due to the fact that when creating the theme, Mick had a tight schedule (only 2-4 days to make, he said), which explains why, to the mixed reaction of old and new KI fans, and compared to the dino's classic KI1 theme, this track feels "incomplete" and/or underwhelming in both the game and the OST.[2][3] Even Mick once (humorously) expressed his displeasure of how the overall track turned out in a later tweet.[4]
