A Dretch's full appearance
A Dretch is a stout red monster that serves as one of Gargos' most common minions.
Description[]
Dretches are small creatures, standing only about four feet tall. They are bulbous in shape, and have stubby legs and oversized, thick arms with claws. They have tiny green eyes on their faces, which only consist of a gaping maw of sharp teeth and a single horn.
Dretches are very subservient to Gargos, eagerly throwing themselves into battle for their master. They seem more aggressive than Izziks, roaring at opponents before battle and only reluctantly allowing Gargos to take over.
Killer Instinct (2013)[]
Dretches, along with Izziks, can be summoned to aid Gargos in battle by using his Summon move. Once on the stage, the Dretch can be commanded by Gargos to behave in different ways:
- Creep Mode - Dretch walks back and forth along the stage, tackling the opponent if they come close.
- Cover Mode - Dretch walks back and forth around Gargos to take cover behind him.
- Kill Mode - Dretch attacks by leaping into the air and body-slamming the opponent, hitting overhead.
A Dretch is destroyed when hit by the opponent three separate times. Gargos can also grab the Dretch with Devil's Divide, and from there perform several actions based on the button pressed:
- Sadistic Lob - (Up) - Gargos lobs Dretch in a wide arc.
- Sadistic Hurl - (Forward) - Gargos throws Dretch horizontally.
- Sadistic Appetite - (Back) - Gargos absorbs Dretch to regain some Instinct Meter.
- Sadistic Intent - (Down) - Gargos lets go of Dretch.
- Cruel Inspiration - (P) - Gargos punches Dretch, instantly recharging its Kill Mode attack.
Trivia[]
- Upon Gargos' reveal, there was confusion about whether Dretch and Izzik were single characters or an entire species. Designer Adam "Keits" Heart clarified that the latter is true.
- Dretch and Izzik are named after Iron Galaxy developer Issac "Delriatch" Torres.
- To "dretch" is an English verb meaning to torment or vex.
- In a Gargos mirror-match, Player 2's Dretch will be green in color instead of red. This helps differentiate whose minions are whose.
