The Disavowed is a rogue counterintelligence unit that was founded by the Black Orchid after ARIA engineered her dishonorable discharge from service at the Special Warfare Department of the US military. Orchid has since transitioned the outfit from a rebel network of operatives wrongfully disgraced by Ultratech into a full-blown paramilitary resistance force with a global reach.
Engaged in guerrilla warfare against ARIA, the Disavowed not only amass proof of her influence but strategically disrupt Ultratech's activities across the world. Due to their mobile base of operations and decentralized structure, the Disavowed are notoriously difficult to take down, with ARIA's best intel suggesting Orchid's headquarters is presently located in a war-torn region of Eastern Europe.
Background & history[]
The Disavowed began as an underground refuge for secret agents whose lives were ruined by Ultratech after they grew too knowledgeable of the corporation's many dark secrets. Under B. Orchid's stewardship, the organization rapidly expanded on its capabilities, and now features a shadowy core of ex-special forces, renegade covert operatives and defected spies; supported by a worldwide network of mercenaries, informants and sympathizers.
Tracking each other down: ARIA's relentless efforts to find Orchid are met with uneven success
Engaging ARIA through asymmetric warfare, the Disavowed strike at Ultratech using every tool and maneuver available. This includes creating PR nightmares for the company by leaking classified information to global media, hit-and-run attacks on the megacorporation's infrastructure and supply lines, and abductions of Ultratech's personnel. Orchid has made it crystal clear to ARIA that the Disavowed's endgame is to discover the location of her mainframe computer and then shut it down—permanently.
Eagle was part of the fledgling Disavowed, but became imprisoned during a raid on an Ultratech facility, and ARIA used his brain waves as the basis for the Fulgore Mark III's tactical AI. When Jago reunited with his half-sister at the end of Season One, he became an honorary member of the group. The Disavowed since formed ties with Maya and her Night Guard during Season Two, and have (very) begrudgingly agreed to a (really) shaky "Alliance" with Ultratech in Season Three, in response to the cataclysmic events unfolding in Shadow Lords.
Whether this means ARIA and Orchid are actually safe from each other remains to be seen.
